AI Research Intern @ LMU Munich, DE (Sep 2025 - Now)

Joined the Mathematical Data Science & AI Lab to work on optimization methods for large language models (LLMs) pretraining.

  • Investigated optimization methods for large language model pretraining and transformer-based architectures.
  • Designed an experimental sandbox to reproduce and analyze a recently identified issue, benchmarking multiple candidate solutions, including preconditioning and learning rate selection strategies
  • Built a distributed training pipeline on a Slurm-managed cluster using PyTorch Distributed, improving training throughput (steps/sec).
  • Collaborated on side-projects exploring AI-driven automation for mathematical and academic workflows.

A stakeholder management problem:

  • Mathematics perspective: simplify and solve the optimization problem behind LLMs pretraining
  • Engineering perspective: build, scale, and stress the proposed method back to the original problem
